I would like to thank all of you for your interest in our self-help
work. Our paths touched along the way though attending one of
our self-help workshops, signing up for the Loving Life newsletter,
signing our guest book, requesting a pain analysis, or by purchasing
our books and videos.
Many people ask me how we got into such a unique profession,
how this form of communication got started, and how our products
got their start. Life is an adventure for those with the courage
to explore. I am an exployer searching out my path. There are
many modalities out there for healing.
This is the one I chose, This is my story Elizabeth Barhydt...
It is not that went wrong in my life but what I did about it.
THIS IS WHERE I WAS

Most of my life I was in constant pain, emotional and physical.
I lived on prescription drugs, (Codeine for 25 years, Cortisone
for bursitis in the shoulders for 20 years). I became an alcoholic,
I had two nervous breakdowns. I was also very dyslexic. I had
a bad marriage and divorce. I felt I was doomed, nobody could
help me.
THIS IS WHERE I AM TODAY

Now I am mostly free of pain, emotionally and physically. I found
the cause of my emotional and physical stress and pain, which
I will be discussing in future newsletters.
As long as I keep my muscles working and communicating with my
brain, I do not have any problems with my herniated disc, bad
hip or feet.
In December 2002 at the age of 70 yrs 8 months &
4 days I walked the Honolulu Marathon 26.2 miles in less than
8 hours with no pain. Our Self-Help Techniques can be done on
the run or walking just as I did on the Marathon to eliminate
pain. Hap, my husband at age 74, with Parkinson's disease. walked
the 10 K (6.2 miles) in 3 hours using our self-help techniques
along the way.

DEALING WITH EMOTIONAL STRESS
********************
My life started to unfold in 1977 at the age of 45, when I attended
a workshop with Ken Keyes, Jr. called "Living Love".
I attended the workshop, just to keep a friend company. However
I soon discovered that I was there for me. I took alot away from
that workshop experience. I finally had a reason to live and
a desire to see my beautiful dreams come true.
Ken Keyes, wrote a book called "HANDBOOK TO HIGHER
CONSCIOUSNESS" where he describes methods on how
to create a more happy life. I spent nine months at his center
called "Cornucopia" located in St Mary, Kentucky.
While at Cornucopia I met my husband Hap Barhydt and we created
a Living Love marriage based on Ken Keys book "A
Conscious Persons Guide to Relationships". Hap
has even given me more opportunities to learn and to expand my
power to love.
DEALING WITH PHYSICAL STRESS

Now that I had taken care of how to work on the emotional aspect
of healing. I was still in constant pain being, diagnosed with
arthritis, fibromyalgia etc. I still had difficulty in walking,
limited range of motion , back and neck pain, feet pain, carpal
tunnel syndrome, and tendonitis . I also have a herniated disc
in my lower back, and a deteriorated left hip, and on and on
it went.
I started with a course called "Touch for Health"
where I started to learn how muscles work together. This was
my first experience with muscle testing. We learned that every
muscle is connected to a meridian, and every meridian is connected
with an organ; so working with the muscles can help to heal the

After attending many classes I kept asking. "What can
I do for myself?" I have a simple mind, and I need simple
techniques that I can do even when I am hurting, like in the
middle of the night. My synthesis was to take these complex techniques,
(as I saw it) that I had learned and make them into simplified
tools of self-help, that I could do for myself.
What Hap & I discovered is that "Muscles are the Missing
Link" to our aches and pains, Muscles have to work together
in groups or in pairs. A Reactive Muscles is when you use one
muscle other muscles may go weak.
Reactive Muscles we feel may be the greatest cause of our aches
and pains.
OUR DISCOVERY of SELF-HELP

In 1988, I was still in constant pain. We were parked at an RV
park where there were mineral hot springs, which I was told was
good for people with arthritis. After soaking in the hot pool
for about an hour I was free from pain for the first time in
many years, but when I went to get out of the hot pool, all my
muscles locked up. I had to literally crawl up to where we had
the motor home parked. I asked Hap to get out the massage table
to help me. I was in so much pain that I could not even raise
my arm for Hap to muscle test me. At that time the Reactive
Muscle Basic Balance, as described in our books and videos,
came to me intuitively. I tried the technique on myself and to
my amazement it worked. I started to feel better. Then I knew
we had the answer to helping me with my constant pain.
SELF-HELP FOR HELPING OTHERS

This worked for me, but I wondered how these techniques could
work for other people not familiar with muscle balancing. An
opportunity to check this out soon appeared. In another RV park.
we met a lady who had bursitis in her right shoulder. She had
been to the emergency room, but received little relief. She also
had low back pain. When I first saw her, she asked if this was
Black Magic. I asked her permission to work with her. She was
in so much pain she said "just get rid of my pain."
I proceeded to do our Reactive Muscle Basic Balance and our Frozen
Muscle Basic Balance techniques, a little at a time, as she gradually
started to raise her arm. In less then 20 minutes she raised
her arm and the pain was gone. We also taught her how to balance
her hips to help with her low back pain.
We saw her the next morning and she was fine. Her husband stated
he did the techniques on himself for his neck stress and his
neck was better.
With this success, which happened in 1988, we wrote the first
edition of our "Self-Help for Stress and Pain plus Learning
Blocks" book (48 pages). Now 16 years later our 7th edition
has grown to 96 pages. We taught our Self-Help for Stress & Pain
work in 13 countries. October 2003 we attended the Kinesiology
conference in Italy and also taught a 3 day Self-Help workshop.
Elizabeth gave a lecture on Subtitles in Muscle Testing and Hap
gave a lecture on how he is dealing with Parkinson's without
drugs using the Barhydt self-help techniuqes and nutrition.
