In our experience most chronic headaches, tension headaches, and migraine
headaches can be released in a few minutes with the use of simple neuro-muscular balancing
exercises The headaches frequently do not return after the first session; however the
headache sufferer can be taught to do these simple exercises on a self-help basis.
These exercises work because they release the over energized (hypertonic)
muscles that create the cranial pressures causing the pain result. They make use of the
body-mind intelligence to balance the appropriate muscle groups.
These exercises are described in our book Self-help
for Stress and Pain, now in its 5th printing. These unique exercises are based
on the principles of Touch for Health.
As a first step it is vitally important to consult a physician to determine if
the headache is due to a pathological problem (such as a tumor or blocked blood vessel).
Then do the exercises if there is no pathological problem.
When these exercises fail to relieve a headache or when a
headache returns frequently and consultation with a physician fails to reveal a
pathological problem, another possibility is that the headache is emotionally based,
either a conscious or subconscious device to get out of doing something the person doesn't
want to do. (The person with the headache may be totally unaware that this is going on.)
In this case the emotional problem needs to be resolved; then our Self-Help methods
will be very effective to release any remaining headache.
CHRONIC HEADACHE: Our neighborhood
was planning a Thanksgiving dinner in the clubhouse. As the day approached, one of our
neighbors had been in bed for several days with a disabling headache and was not expecting
to be able to attend. These attacks occurred from time to time and after a few days
cleared up. We showed her how to do the Headache Release Exercise and in a few seconds the
headache was gone. She was able to attend and enjoy the Thanksgiving dinner.
When we saw her several months later, Elizabeth asked her, "Are you using the
Headache Release exercise that we showed you?"
She replied, "You know, I had completely forgotten about it. I haven't had a
headache since then."

MIGRAINE HEADACHE: On another
occasion we were walking back up the hill to our house from the mail boxes and met a
neighboring couple headed down the hill for their mail. As we greeted them, the fellow
covered both ears with his hands and backed away saying that he had a severe
"migraine headache". Any sound intensified the pain. Elizabeth walked up to him
and did the headache release exercise on him. To his great surprise in a few moments the
pain was gone.
Afterwards we learned that he had been sitting in a dark room with the headache for two
days, and feeling the need for fresh air, had gone out for a walk with his wife, who was
leading him by the hand while he kept his eyes closed. It is now three years later, and he
has not had another headache.
